CCTV repairs and takeovers
CCTV repair across Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Bedfordshire, for systems someone else fitted, or that have stopped recording, can't be seen on your phone, have a camera offline, or nobody knows the password. We'll find out why and put it right.
Call-out and diagnosis £60, then repairs from £85.
C1 dropping in and out. The cable, the joint, the power or the port: one of them is the reason.
What's it doing?
Pick the closest match. It's what I'd check first, not a diagnosis: I'll confirm on the visit.
it's stopped recording
Usually one of these:
- The hard drive in the recorder is full or failing
- Recording was switched off or reset after a power cut
- The recorder has frozen and needs a restart or an update
What I do
I check the drive's health and the recording settings, replace the drive if it's on its way out, and make sure every camera is recording again before I leave.
i can't see it on my phone
Usually one of these:
- New broadband or a new router broke the remote connection
- The app account belongs to whoever fitted it, or the last owner
- The maker has stopped supporting the old app
What I do
I get remote viewing working on your own accounts, on your phones, and show you how to check it from away.
a camera's gone offline
Usually one of these:
- Weather has got into a cable joint or connector
- A power supply or adaptor has failed
- The switch or recorder port feeding it has failed
What I do
I trace the camera back to the recorder, fix or remake the joint, and replace whatever has failed.
nobody knows the password
Usually one of these:
- The installer set it up and kept the details
- The system came with the house
What I do
Most recorders can be reset. Some makers ask for proof that you own it first. Either way, the new accounts are yours, not mine.
the picture is poor at night
Usually one of these:
- Infrared light bouncing off a soffit, wall or cobweb
- A dirty or scratched lens cover
- A camera looking straight at a security light
What I do
I clean and re-angle the camera, and move it if the position is the problem.
it came with the house
Usually one of these:
- Nobody knows what is recording, or where
- Accounts and passwords belong to the last owner
What I do
I find out what's there and what still works, reset it to accounts you control, and tell you straight whether it's worth keeping.
Taking over a system
Whether it came with the house or the installer has gone quiet, this is what a takeover covers.
If the recorder is too old to update or the cameras can't give a usable picture, a new system is often cheaper than chasing faults, and some old cable runs can be reused. See how an installation works.
Not sure if I can help with your make? Tell me the brand, usually printed on the front of the recorder, or send a photo on WhatsApp. I'll say straight away.

Get you back in
Accounts and passwords reset to ones you control.
Check every camera
Is it recording, is the picture usable day and night, is it pointing where it should.
Check the recorder
Drive health, how many days it keeps, and whether the software is up to date.
Phones
The app working on your phones, at home and away.
Tidy what needs it
Loose cables clipped, joints weatherproofed, labels on the ends.
A straight answer
If it isn't worth saving, I'll say so, and what replacing it would involve.
After a CCTV repair: keeping it working
CCTV faults often start small: a lens nobody cleaned, a drive nobody checked, an update nobody installed. A check-up once a year catches them before a camera stops recording the night you need it.
Check-up sheetOnce a year · ask when you get in touch
- Lenses and covers cleaned, cobwebs cleared
- Recorder drive health and days kept checked
- Software and app updated
- Every camera checked by day and by night
