Ring, Nest and video doorbell installation
Ring, Nest and other video doorbells fitted across Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Bedfordshire, plus wireless cameras. Set up on your phone and your Wi-Fi, angled away from next door, and an honest word on when a wired camera would do the job better.
Ring and video doorbell installation: what I fit
Fitting from £79 (fitting and set-up, your own device)
- AVideo doorbells
- Wired to your existing doorbell, or battery-powered where there is no wiring. Chime and app set up and tested. Most video doorbells run on Wi-Fi (a few use a network cable instead), and many brands need a monthly plan to keep clips: I'll tell you which before you buy.
- BBattery and solar cameras
- Mounted where they can see what you want, angled away from next door, on a bracket that suits the wall.
- CThe one you've bought
- Already have a Ring, Nest or other doorbell? Or a camera still in its box? I'll fit and set that up too.
- DWi-Fi at the door
- If the signal is weak where the doorbell goes, it will miss visitors. I check it first, and fix it if needed.

Wired or battery cameras?
| What | Wired CCTV camera | Battery camera |
|---|---|---|
| Power | One cable carries power and picture. Nothing to charge. | A battery to recharge every few weeks or months, or a solar panel. |
| Recording | Records all the time to the recorder in your house. | Usually records short clips when it sees movement. |
| Keeping clips | Kept on your recorder. No subscription. | Many brands need a monthly plan to keep and play back clips. |
| Wi-Fi | Doesn't use it. | Needs a strong signal where it is mounted, or it drops out. |
| Fitting | A cable run from the recorder: a longer job, done once. | Quick, with few or no holes. Good for renters. |
Doorbells are their own case: most, even wired ones, run on Wi-Fi. For cameras, battery makes sense when you rent, when there's no route for a cable, or for one camera somewhere awkward. Wired makes sense for anything you'll rely on every day. How a wired installation works.
Wireless needs good Wi‑Fi
A doorbell at the far end of the house from the router is a common reason one misses visitors. I check the signal at the door before fitting, and if it's weak, a mesh point or a cabled access point sorts it. See Wi-Fi and networking.
